This Week's Five Beautiful Things
There are some weeks that gently remind us what matters most.
Not because they are filled with grand adventures or perfectly planned moments, but because they leave us feeling deeply grateful for the simple gifts we almost overlook.
This week was one of those weeks.
1. Having my whole family together
For the first time in six years, all of my siblings, nieces, nephews, and our newest little family members were together in one place.
The last time we had all gathered like this was for my mom's funeral.
So much has changed since then. We've walked through grief, celebrated new beginnings, welcomed babies into the family, and each carried our own seasons of joy and heartache.
Watching everyone laugh together—seeing cousins meet for the first time, hearing conversations overlap, and simply looking around the room—was one of those moments I wanted to hold onto a little longer.
It reminded me that while time changes us, love has a beautiful way of gathering us back together.
2. Quiet mornings with coffee on the porch
Before the day asked anything of me, there was coffee, fresh air, and stillness.
No agenda. No rushing.
Just the gentle rhythm of birdsong, a morning breeze, and a few peaceful moments to simply be.
Sometimes the best way to begin a day is by noticing it.
3. Swimming in the lake
This one felt especially meaningful.
For the first time since my breast cancer surgeries, I stepped into a beautiful lake and simply floated in the water.
It wasn't about swimming laps or accomplishing anything.
It was about realizing that healing isn't only measured in doctor's appointments or milestones.
Sometimes healing looks like feeling free again.
Feeling the cool water, floating beneath an open sky, and remembering that my body is still capable of experiencing joy—it was a quiet gift I won't soon forget.
4. Good food and even better conversation
Some meals nourish us in more ways than one.
The laughter around the table.
Stories we've heard before but happily listen to again.
The pauses that make room for meaningful conversations.
The recipes may eventually be forgotten, but the people gathered around the table never are.
5. Walks by the lake
There is something about walking beside water that settles the soul.
The gentle breeze, sunlight dancing across the surface, and wide-open views invited me to slow my pace and simply notice the beauty around me.
Sometimes the scenery changes us just as much as the destination.
As I look back on last week, I'm reminded that beautiful things rarely ask for our attention.
They're often found in ordinary conversations, quiet mornings, healing moments, shared meals, and peaceful walks.
The more I practice looking for them, the more I realize they've been there all along.
Maybe that's what savoring is really about—not finding a perfect life, but noticing the beauty that's already unfolding right where we are.
